So after a long time abroad, I am finally going to be returning to Canada.
My wife Vasilia and I currently live in Bangkok, Thailand with our young son Thanasi. We moved here in August of 2007 from London, England. We have enjoyed our time abroad, but have a couple of reasons why we need to head home.
The first reason is that we are trying to get Canadian citizenship for my wife, and the process has a residence requirement. Vasilia has to live inside Canada for something like 3 out of 5 years before she is eligible to apply for citizenship but we are really hoping to live in Canada for a number of years, possibly until Thanasi is done high school (he's 2 now!).
The second reason why we are moving back is to be closer to family. Thanasi has spent very little time with any of his grandparents and Vasilia and I both miss our respective families. Living in North America will give everyone chances to be able to come and see us on a much more frequent basis.
I also miss British Columbia and Vancouver Island. It has been now 16 years since I lived full time on Denman Island, my home island, and I miss it. Vancouver is a beautiful place to live and I would like my son to know this part of the world. Thailand is beautiful as well, but it is very hot outside most of the year, and we live in Bangkok so we don't get as much exposure to nature as we would like and we expect to change that once we return home.
