Off to Vancouver and Denman Island

So my wife and I are off on our long journey to Denman Island. First we have an hour to the airport in a "mini-cab", and then we have to wait at the airport for 4 hours (much of which will be taken up by dealing with our numerous bags!). Next, we have a 9.5 hour flight to Vancouver over the Arctic circle, and hopefully I’ll be able to look down and see more than clouds. Once we arrive at Vancouver International Airport, we have an hour long drive to the ferry, and then we may end up waiting a couple of hours because we might just miss a ferry. An hour and a half on the ferry, and an hour up Vancouver Island to Buckley bay where we wait for and then board a smaller ferry to Denman Island. For those of you who are keeping track, we are leaving our flat in London at 8:30am GMT, and expecting to arrive on Denman Island at 10pm PST, which, including the time-zone changes, is a total journey of 19.5 hours, assuming everything runs relatively smoothly. Whew…I hope I get some sleep on that flight!

We’ve packed a bunch of extra stuff because we know we plan on moving back to the Vancouver area eventually, so we figured we could live a bit of a Spartan lifestyle here while we wait, and save ourselves some shipping costs. So this means we are traveling with 10 bags including our baby bag, and our carry-on bags.

My next post will almost certainly be in the new year, so have a happy holidays!
