So I get a week off from work randomly here in October for ‘mid-term’ break. Very strange…oh well I’ll take it.
Besides the usual catch-up that occurs during these types of breaks, I’m also going to be working on another paid website design, this time for a school that is opening up in New York, with my friend Andrew. It looks like he has a number of other sites organized after this so we could end up making some decent money on the side. Very cool because I have a new family and teachers get paid crap.
On the programming side of things, I’m learning another programming language, called SQL, which seems pretty simple. It’s definitely written in a human-readable format, even more so than Javascript and Php (which I’ve recently learned - but not mastered). I’ve even already used my new knowledge twice in simple scripts that allow our OpenEducator website to keep track of the total experience of its users.
I really do hope all this website design stuff works out as planned, because it would be really nice not to have to worry as much financially. We are getting some great support from both our families, but I’d like to see a better long term solution.
Of course I’m also pleased because I get to spend even more time at home with my son and my wife while Thanasi is still young. He changes a little bit each day, and when I’m at work for a week, I sometimes feel like major changes have occurred while I’ve been working. His grandmother Linda pointed out that she had seem him laugh ’silently’ which I’m upset not to have seen! I suppose as far as most daddies go, I will get a lot more time with my kids than most given my 3 months of holiday time.
